what we believe

 New Sweden Mission Church is an independent, non-denominational church that maintains a networking relationship with a number of local churches and mission agencies.

OUR PURPOSE

 The mission of The New Sweden Mission Church is to glorify God by:

  • worshipping Him corporately and individually;
  • bringing people to spiritual maturity; and
  • reaching out to the lost world

CONFESSION

  • We believe in the Virgin Birth, and in the Eternal, Almighty, Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

  • We believe in the vicarious and sacrificial death of Christ on the cross, and that the redemption and salvation of sinners is by grace alone, through the mediatorial offices of the Son of God, who by the appointment of the Father, willingly took upon Himself our nature (yet without sin) honored the divine law by His full, personal and perfect obedience, and, by the shedding of His Precious blood in death, made a complete atonement for sins, once for all, thereby satisfying divine justice. Eph. 2:8, Acts 4:12, Heb. 10:1-4, 1 Peter 1:18,19.

  • We believe in and accept the Word of God in its entirety as the only perfect rule of faith, doctrine and life.

STATEMENT OF FAITH

The following statement of faith compliments the above Confession and gives a fuller account of our beliefs as a congregation.

We believe:

  • In the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament as verbally inspired of God, inerrant and complete in the original writings, and that they are of supreme and final authority in faith and practice (2 Tim. 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:20-21);

  • In One God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit (John 1:1; John 14:16,17,26; Matt. 28:19);

  • That Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is true God and true man (Matt. 1:18-23; John 1:1,18; 3:16);

  • That man was created in the image of God; that he sinned by his own choice and thereby became separated from God; and that all human beings are born in sin, this making regeneration necessary (Gen. 1:26; Rom. 5:12; Is. 59:2; Rom. 6:23);

  • That salvation has been provided through the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ for all men; and those who repent and believe in Him are born again of the Holy Spirit, receive the gift of eternal life, and become children of God (Rom. 5:8,9; John 1:12; Rom. 8:9);

  • That Jesus Christ arose bodily from the dead according to the Scriptures. He is now at the right hand of God on high as our advocate. He will come again bodily to establish His kingdom of righteousness and peace (1 Cor. 15:3,4; Heb. 4:14-16; Acts 1:11; 1 Thess. 4:16,17; Is. 9:6,7);

  • In the bodily resurrection for the saved unto everlasting life and blessedness in heaven and the bodily resurrection of the unsaved unto everlasting punishment in hell (Acts 24:15; Rev. 20:15; Rom. 6:23);

  • In the existence of Satan, called the Devil and his present control; over unregenerated mankind. Satan will be overcome by the Lord Jesus Christ and cast into hell (2 Cor. 11:13-15; Rev. 20:1-3,7-10; Eph. 6:11,12);

  • That believer's water baptism and the Lord's Supper (Communion) are ordinances to be observed by the Church during the present age. They are, however, not to be regarded as a means of salvation (Acts 10:47,48; Mark 16:16; 1 Cor. 11:23-26);

  • That believers are baptized into the Body of Christ by the Holy Spirit at regeneration according to 1 Cor. 12:13 and He fills and empowers the believer who yields to His control (Eph. 5:18); and

  • That Jesus Christ is the Lord and Head of the Church, that every local Church has the right under Christ to decide and govern its own affairs and that the local church is essential for Christian edification and propagation of the Gospel (Heb. 10:24,25; Acts 13:2; Matt. 16:17,18; Col. 1:18; 1 Cor. 12:27).
